'The Barmies' - the only cricket awards voted for by the fans
'The Barmies', the only awards voted for by you, the fans, are back and we are looking for your thoughts and votes on our beautiful game over the past year (April 2013 - March 2014).
Thinking back, we can probably all remember the low points but mustn't forget the highs - remember Ian Bell's performance throughout last summer? Or the class of the bowlers at times - Jimmy, Bresnan or Swanny before he retired? And of course, not forgetting England's Women winning the Ashes here and retaining them Down Under this winter through stellar performances across the team.
Vote now for Best England Player over the 2013/14 season (April 2013 until end of March 2014) both male and female. Plus have your say on who you think pushed the boundary from an international player perspective.
With five award categories, The Barmies look to acknowledge the best players from a fans perspective and recognise those that play a special and significant part in cricket behind the scenes. The Barmies are not limited to Barmy Army members and we welcome any and every cricket fan to vote and have your say. The five award categories are:
- Barmy Army Award for England Male Player of the Year 2013/14
- Barmy Army Award for England Female Player of the Year 2013/14
- Barmy Army Award for International Player of the Year 2013/14
- Barmy Army Medal for Distinguished Services on Tour
- Barmy Army Medal for Services to Cricket
2013 Winners were:
- England Male Player - Matt Prior
- England Female Player - Charlotte Edwards
- International Player - Hashim Amla
- Distinguished Services on Tour - Giles Wellington
- Services to Cricket - Christopher Martin Jenkins MBE
The player awards are all for performance over the 12 months of April 2013 to end of March 2014 and you can vote for any player you think fits the bill and deserves to win.
Barmy Army Medal for Distinguished Services on Tour is for any tourist past or present who you think should be recognised for their contribution to touring - perhaps they always make you laugh on tour, have always made you feel welcome or have written your favourite song.
Barmy Army Medal for Services to Cricket is for anyone involved in cricket - this could be anyone from your local grounds man to a county coach to an England selector - someone you feel should be recognised for their contribution to our beloved game.
For both the Barmy Army Medal for Distinguished Services on Tour and the Barmy Army Medal for Services to Cricket we would love to receive your suggestions as to who should be considered. To do so, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The final discussion on these two award categories will be made by The Barmies Committee and their decision is final.
Voting will close at 11.59pm on 8th July 2014 with the Awards ceremony to follow later on this summer. Full details to follow.
