It was announced late last week that England’s two-match Test series in Sri Lanka had been postponed due to concerns over the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak.

Joe Root’s men were set to begin the series against Sri Lanka in Galle on Thursday, with the final Test starting in Colombo on the following Friday.

England’s preparations were well underway as they had put in impressive displays in the three-day game against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI and in the first two days of their game against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI, which was subsequently was abandoned.

As it was the news came from the ECB on Friday that the tour was postponed and the players would return home.

It was a completely understandable decision but still a gutting one given the excitement that had built ahead of the series, particularly for those planning to travel to Sri Lanka and support the Three Lions.

The safety of the players, the staff and the fans are, of course, paramount but it is still hugely disappointing to lose such an enthralling series just before it gets going.

England’s next game is scheduled to be the first Test of their three-match series against West Indies on home turf in June, though there remains uncertainty surrounding that given the current circumstances.

Following the announcement, a number of England players took to social media to share their thoughts…
