England have had their fair share of fantastic openers over the past 20 years or so but few have been more enjoyable to watch in all formats than Marcus Trescothick.

The word great is banded around a lot these days but it is certainly a fitting description of the 44-year-old.

The former Three Lions and Somerset batsman terrorised opposition bowlers and compiled more than 10,000 runs during an eight-year international career.

Trescothick provided some iconic moments in an England shirt, whether it was him skipping down the pitch to despatch Shane Warne in the second Ashes Test at Edgbaston in 2005 or carting the Pakistan attack to all parts in an ODI at Lord’s in 2001.
