Given the events of the last few months, it is easy to forget England’s success in South Africa at the start of 2020.

The tour started badly for the Three Lions – as illness ravaged the camp and they slipped to defeat in the first Test at Supersport Park – but as they so often seem to do, Joe Root’s men bounced back to claim a comprehensive series win.

A draw in a tightly contested ODI series would follow before England collected their second series win of the tour by beating the Proteas 2-1 in the T20s.

It was a fantastic few months for English cricket and a tour that left us fans feeling very positive about the future of the current side, particularly given the impressive performances of many of the Three Lions’ up-and-coming young talents.

The Barmy Army were, of course, there to roar on England every step of the way and our impact at Newlands, in what would prove the turning point of the series, has been highlighted by the players themselves.

There remains a fair bit of uncertainty moving forward but with players beginning to return to training it doesn’t hurt to be optimistic that we may see some cricket soon.
