The ECB has announced which England players have been awarded central contracts for 2020/21, with Zak Crawley, Dom Sibley, and Ollie Pope receiving Test central contracts for the first time.

In total 12 Test central contracts, 12 white ball central contracts, four increment contracts, and three pace bowling development contracts have been handed out all of which cover a 12-month period starting 1 October 2020.

Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, and Chris Woakes are the only players to receive both Test and white ball contracts.

Among the notable omissions for the Test contracts are wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and pace bowler Mark Wood, though both players are among the 12 given white ball central contracts.

Batsman Joe Denly had a white ball contract last year but misses out this time around, while seamer Tom Curran has received one having made the step up from an increment contract.

Spinners Dom Bess and Jack Leach, limited-overs specialist Chris Jordan, and batsman Dawid Malan are the four players to receive increment contracts.

Saqib Mahmood, Ollie Stone, and Craig Overton became the first recipients of the pace bowling development contracts in January and have retained those for the next year.

Players that receive Test or white ball central contracts have their salaries paid in full by the ECB, with rankings based on a range of factors deciding how much they receive.

In a statement on their website, the ECB noted that due to the impact of the current situation “on the finances of the game, the Team England Player Partnership, on behalf of the players, and the ECB are currently finalising the levels of player remuneration for the next 12 months. A further statement will be made once these discussions have concluded.”
