Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Zak Crawley, and Mark Wood have all been named in the 17-strong squad for England’s third Test against India, a day/night game that starts next Wednesday.
Bairstow and Wood were both rested for the first two Tests, while Crawley has been absent throughout the series with a wrist injury and Archer missed the second match in Chennai due to an elbow problem.
Those four will all be available for selection for the third Test at the newly-built Sardar Patel Stadium, in Ahmedabad, though England will be without Moeen Ali, who has returned home to rest but will be back for the white-ball leg of the tour.
Joe Root’s men will no doubt be keen to bounce back after their defeat to India in the second Test, with the four-match series now evenly poised at 1-1.
The England skipper has a wide range of options available to him as a 17-strong squad has been named for the day/night Test that starts next Wednesday.
The full squad is as follows:
Joe Root (c), Jimmy Anderson, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Dom Sibley, Ben Stokes, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood.
The tourists will have some interesting decisions to make with day/night Tests often meaning swing plays a more prominent part.
That could mean we see Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad play together for the first time this winter.
Whoever lines up in Ahmedabad, one thing seems clear. With the scores level in the series and two games to play the next meeting looks like a mouthwatering proposition.
