England star Ben Stokes is set to have an X-ray on Thursday to assess the suspected broken hand that has ruled him out of the IPL, according to The Independent.
Stokesy is one of four of our players that are scheduled to play for the Rajasthan Royals in this year’s competition but it seems he may play no further part.
The Independent has reported that the all-rounder is out of the IPL with a suspected broken hand – an injury he sustained taking a diving catch to dismiss Chris Gayle in the Royals’ opening game defeat to Kings XI Punjab.
It is understood he immediately felt discomfort in his left-hand but went on to open the batting for his side, though he was dismissed for a third ball duck.
Stokesy is set to have an X-ray to assess the full extent of the injury on Thursday and will remain out in India for a week before the ECB take over the management of his rehabilitation.
The news broke today and will leave England fans concerned given the amount of cricket still to be played this year, with a full summer schedule, the T20 World Cup, and the Ashes down under still to come – and the Durham man expected to play a key part throughout.
There’s no doubt that Stokesy will do all he can to ensure he is available as much as possible for England during that busy period and he’s illustrated with his performances in recent years that he’s superhuman. Hopefully, that helps his rehabilitation.
All of us at the Barmy Army are optimistic that he can make a speedy recovery! We will keep you updated with the latest developments as they emerge.
