England all-rounder Ben Stokes is set to miss the start of the summer as he could be out for up to 12 weeks after fracturing his left index finger.
Stokesy suffered the injury taking a diving catch to remove Chris Gayle in the Rajasthan Royals’ IPL opener against Punjab Kings earlier this week.

The ECB have announced that after an X-ray and CT scan revealed the extent of his injury, the 29-year-old is set to have surgery in Leeds on Monday.
The England and Durham player could be out for up to 12 weeks to recover, meaning he will likely miss the start of the home summer schedule.
Joe Root’s side kick things off with a two-match Test series against New Zealand at the start of June before the Three Lions host Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI and a three-match T20 series.
Stokesy is unlikely to feature in either of those but could be back for the white-ball contests with Pakistan in July and the five-match Test series against India toward the end of the summer.
England have a busy year of cricket ahead and will want their talismanic all-rounder back for the visit of India but the T20 World Cup and Ashes series later in the year will likely be their top priority.
The news comes just days after the all-rounder became only the third player to be named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World in two consecutive years.
Everyone at the Barmy Army hopes that Stokesy will make a swift recovery and knowing him, he will!
