England pace bowler Jofra Archer will not feature in the 2021 IPL, opting instead to continue his rehabilitation at Sussex.
Archer was set to be one of a record 14 England players to feature in this year’s competition but was only expected to be available for the later fixtures as he recovered from hand surgery and an ongoing elbow injury.
The ECB announced yesterday, however, that the fast bowler would not play any part in the 2021 IPL and would continue his recovery with his county instead.
Archer has been back bowling with higher intensity this week, with both the ECB and Sussex medical teams closely monitoring his progress.
As of next week, the 26-year-old will step up the intensity of his regime further and rejoin Sussex training with optimism that if all goes well and he is able to bowl pain-free, he will be able to feature for them in the County Championship in the coming weeks – news that’ll have county batsmen across the country shaking in their boots.
Archer has been absent after an elbow injury saw him miss a significant part of the winter tour to India, while hand surgery was needed after he cut himself cleaning his fish tank (yes, really!).
The fast bowler had been one of four of Chris Silverwood’s players set to feature for the Rajasthan Royals in this year’s competition but with Ben Stokes out injured and Liam Livingstone returning to England due to bubble fatigue, Jos Buttler is now the only player left at the franchise.
More information will be released about Archer’s development in due course but we can’t wait to have him back in the County Championship!
