The can’t miss moments from the Barmy Army’s return to Edgbaston

What a day!

The start of the second England v New Zealand Test at Edgbaston saw the Barmy Army back roaring Joe Root’s side on home turf for the first time in more than 600 days and, my god, it was special.

Having won the toss in the match that saw Jimmy Anderson become the most capped English Test player of all time, Rooty opted to bat first and on the back of some fantastic knocks from Rory Burns and Dan Lawrence (not forgetting Messrs Stone and Wood) the hosts finished the day on 258/7.

But today was about something even bigger than just the cricket as with the ground allowed to be at 70% capacity, some 18,000 fans were present to witness a fantastic first day’s play at Edgbaston.

Among those were, of course, a huge Barmy Army presence and there were some truly glorious moments throughout the day.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up all the can’t miss moments from our return to our spiritual home, Edgbaston…
