Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler picked in T20 World Cup team of the tournament

Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler have been named in the ICC’s most valuable team of the tournament for the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup.

Australia beat New Zealand in the final on Sunday, with England knocked out by the Kiwis in a nail-biting semi-final last Wednesday.

Though things ultimately didn’t go our way, the tournament didn’t disappoint in terms of entertainment value and Eoin Morgan’s side played some magnificent cricket for the most part.

With the World Cup now wrapped up, the ICC announced their most valuable team of the tournament today and two of England’s stars got the nod.

Buttler was picked as one of the openers after finishing the tournament with 269 runs at an average of 89.66 and a strike rate of 151.12, including two majestic innings against Australia and Sri Lanka.

England’s wicket-keeper batter also took five dimissals.

Ali, meanwhile, was picked at number six in the order after dazzling with both bat and ball.

The all-rounder made 92 runs at an average of 46 and a strike rate of 148.75, as well as taking 7 wickets at an average of 11 and with an economy rate of 5.50 – stats made all the more impressive when you consider he often opened the bowling for Morgan’s side.

The full team of the tournament is as follows:

David Warner (Australia)

Jos Buttler (wk) (England)

Babar Azam (c) (Pakistan)

Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka)

Moeen Ali (England)

Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)

Adam Zampa (Australia)

Josh Hazlewood (Australia)

Trent Boult (New Zealand)

Anrich Nortje (South Africa)

The focus now shifts to the Ashes down under and we cannot wait!
