Australia name 15-player Ashes squad for first two Tests

Australia have named their 15-player squad for the first two Tests of the 2021/22 Ashes down under.

The series gets underway at the Gabba in Brisbane on the 8th of December and will see the Aussies step into the Test arena for the first time since they were beaten on home turf by India last winter.

It was confirmed last week that Marcus Harris will open with David Warner but Cricket Australia have now named their full 15-player squad for the first two Tests of the series – the opener at the Gabba (8/12 – 12/12) and the day/night Test at the Adelaide Oval (16/12 – 20/12).

The full squad is as follows:

Tim Paine (c), Pat Cummins (vc), Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, and David Warner.

Tim Paine has been confirmed as Australian skipper with fast bowler Pat Cummins his deputy.

Usman Khawaja has been recalled to the Test squad and is set to battle Travis Head as the Aussies look to solve their middle-order issue while right-arm seamer Jhye Richardson also returns to the fray.

The Australia A squad that is set to face the England Lions in a four-day game starting the 9th of December has also been announced and includes:

Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Henry Hunt, Josh Inglis, Nic Maddinson, Mitchell Marsh, Matt Renshaw, Mark Steketee, and Bryce Street.

The squad for the series beyond the second Test is likely to be named ahead of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
