The SCG is always a highlight of every Ashes tour and it’s where the English support is always the largest. We have witnessed some phenomenal performances over the years, most notably winning in 2002/3 before arguably the greatest Barmy Army moment of all time, the golden ball dismissal of Mitchell Johnson as we closed in on the 2010/11 Ashes Victory.

Here’s hoping the lads can bounce back and give the Sydney Barmy Army and the thousands of ex pats a week to remember. We have plenty going on and hope that you find the following helpful…

The Bashes – 3pm Monday 3rd January @ Victor Trumper Oval, 361-441 Glenmore Rd & Hampden Street, Paddington

Our week starts with the 4th Bashes T20 to be played against the Richies. Having gone 1-0 up in Brisbane, we are now trailing 2-1 so this is a must win match for the Barmy Army if we are to retain the Bashes which we won 3-2 in a thrilling finale in 2017/18.

Throughout the Bashes, the Barmy Army has been playing in red and the Richies in pink as we both raise funds for our nominated charities – the Ruth Strauss Foundation and the McGrath Foundation respectively. Whilst the Barmy Army will still be playing in red, we will be donating all the monies that we raise throughout the day and donating them to the McGrath Foundation. To this effect, we would like to thank our match day sponsor – the Australian Venue Co. All supporters are very welcome to come down and watch.

We are also delighted to hear that BT Sport will be coming down to the game and know how delighted the McGrath Foundation is that both teams continue to promote their work and their fantastic fundraising initiatives around the pink Test. Find out more about the pink Test here.

Barmy Army HQs and our Pre-Test Party

For the best experience before, during, and after the third Test, you have to get down to our Barmy Army HQs.

Watson’s, EQ, Moore Park is our Breakfast and Lunchtime HQ, Bang next to the SCG in the EQ , this fantastic venue is now under new ownership, many of you will remember it as The Fox and Lion and then PJ Gallaghers. Opening each day from 9am there is no closer HQ for us and with the SCG finally relenting on passouts we expect it to be a hugely popular lunchtime venue for full strength beers and quality food. With the ground not stocking our merchandise, it is the ideal venue to get your Barmy Army shirts as it is less than 200m from the ground.

The pre-Test party is always a fantastic event and the very best way to warm up for day 1. Cargo Bar is our Evening HQ and will host our pre-Test party which will kick off from 5pm and goes on late into the evening. The Sydney Barmy Army will be joined by Richard Sandham will be our trumpet player for the test and who will no doubt be going through the full repertoire of songs and anthems.

The venue will also be the end of the Test party as Tony Emmerson and the Sydney Barmy Army have accepted a challenge to play a backyard cricket test match against the WCG Backyard Cricket lads on the 4th January starting at 10am. Whoever wins there is no doubt there will be a cracking atmosphere at Cargo and the Barmy Army will be odds on favourites to win the singing bit the drinking could go even way especially if the backyard boys have a Boonie in their team!

Where we are sat at The SCG

In the ground, The Barmy Army will be based in bay 10 of the Bill O’Reilly Stand and bay 12 in the Victor Trumper Stand. Our experience is that it is always quite easy to move around the ground and sit with or near bay 12 in the Victor Trumper Stand especially from day 2.

Merchandise ONLY AVAILABLE from Watsons in the EQ

Our tour polo and t-shirts and Budgy Smugglers buckets, as highlighted below, will be on sale throughout the day at Watsons in the EQ, the closest pub and just 200m from the SCG.
