There are moments at cricket matches that simply wouldn’t happen anywhere else – it’s one of the reasons we all love this strange sport – and one such occurrence happened on the first day of the second England v New Zealand Test at Trent Bridge.
The game is well set at stumps with the Kiwis 318 for 4 but Ben Stokes’ side hoping to cause some problems with the new ball tomorrow morning.
It was a classic day of Test cricket in many ways, with patience needed from both sides and the momentum swinging at times, but it was something that happened outside the boundary rope that reminded us, once again, why we love this game so much.
Indeed, where else could a ball tossed up by England’s Jack Leach end up with the New Zealand team buying a Three Lions supporter a pint?
That’s what happened Trentside today as Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell managed to smash a six back over Leach’s head and into the drink of an unsuspecting fan, Susan, causing all hell to break loose.

The saga wasn’t done there, however, as being the kind souls that we all know them to be, the New Zealand team made sure to buy Susan a replacement pint.
