About us
We are the Army, The Barmy Army
Who are we? Where do we come from?
The Barmy Army was founded by David Peacock, Paul Burnham and Gareth Evans during England’s 1994/95 Ashes tour of Australia. What started as a small group of 30 backpackers staying in hostels living their dream by watching the Ashes Down Under has now evolved into the world-famous supporters’ club it is today. We are incredibly proud of the culture we have created and the reception we receive on every tour, where we are welcomed with open arms. We are privileged to go to some of the greatest countries in the world and enjoy their exceptional hospitality.
Using all of our knowledge built up over the last 30 years, we can offer our members and followers invaluable advice and guidance to make their cricketing experience as brilliant as it can be, including:
– Organising official travel packages
– Providing dedicated Barmy Army seating areas in the UK and overseas
– Organising HQs around the globe for like-minded fans to meet
– Organising major events throughout the year
– Produce high-quality merchandise
– High-quality digital content
– the Shackles Are Off podcast
– Providing top tips for travelling members
– Charity fundraising globally – over £500,000 raised since 1994-5
– Barmy Army Cricket Club plays games globally at the best stadiums
– Having fun and supporting England unconditionally
– Finchy the trumpet!
Anyone and everyone is invited to join in and help us create the atmosphere we’re famous for, whether it’s for Jerusalem after the first ball of every inning or staying all day. The feedback from the player’s past and present has always been fantastic. To be told you are the ‘best supporters in the world or the invaluable ’12th man’ is something we are exceptionally proud. Even if you don’t want to sing the songs we are famous for, you are still welcome at the Barmy Army!
Our mission is to maximise the support for all, so we are here for you, whether it is your first tour or your 150th test.
From members who enjoy a great range of benefits to the supporters who subscribe to our online communications, we hope we can enhance your enjoyment of supporting England and achieve our goal of making watching cricket more fun and popular.
