Charity Partners
We have raised over £500,000 for a wide range of charities all over the world over the last 25 years.
Our charity work in deprived countries such as Sri Lanka and South Africa has gone a long way to supporting communities with initiatives such as rehousing families and restoring and renovating community projects.
CHANCE TO SHINE IS OUR OFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNER!
Chance to Shine is an independent children’s charity on a mission to inspire young people through cricket in schools and communities. The charity wants children to develop a love for the game and find a sense of belonging through the sport; developing their wider wellbeing and life skills to help fulfil their potential.
Much like Chance to Shine, we are committed to giving young people the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. Everyone involved with the Barmy Army has a passion and love for cricket, and we want to help the next generation to develop their wider well-being and life skills to help fulfil their potential.
THE RUTH STRAUSS FOUNDATION
Throughout 2021 and 2022, we raised over £17,000 for The Ruth Strauss Foundation. The charity as set up following the tragic death of ex-England captain Sir Andrew Strauss’ wife from a rare lung cancer in 2018.
In addition to raising funds, we gave the charity lots of digital support on its big annual fundraising day, #RedforRuth. Our ex-pat communities in Australia also contributed greatly throughout the Ashes with their own events and fundraising activities.
THE BOB WILLIS FUND
We are proud to support The Bob Willis Fund and always looking for ways to raise vital funds for prostate cancer research.
Over the previous two years, we have actively encouraged Barmy Army members to get involved with the fantastic Blue for Bob day at Edgbaston, as well as donate all profits from our annual awards evening, The Barmies, to the fund.
So far we have raised over £3,000 and will continue to show our support!
BARMY ARMY RAISES A$65,000 FOR PCA PROFESSIONAL CRICKETERS’ TRUST
This sensational fundraising was part of the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s Legacy Year Appeal which was set-up to raise money for the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust in the PCA’s 50th anniversary.
On the third day of every Ashes Test during the 2017/18 series, the Barmy Army arranged events to raise funds for the charity which supports players – past and present – and their immediate family members in their hour of need.
The charity helps with medical advice, funding for operations, care and assistance whilst being proactive on education initiatives on health and wellbeing matters.
SOWETO CRICKET CLUB
Our first ever Barmy Army CC match on tour was against the Soweto Pioneers CC; it also marked our first time raising money for charity by donating over 10,000 Rand to the club.
It was an honour to return to Soweto on 23rd January 2020 and a pleasure to meet up with several of the team from the 1995 match. The Barmy Army XI was defeated again, but the hospitality and welcome we received from everyone at the club was exceptional.
In total we’ve raised over 60,000 Rand which helps continue to grow the beautiful game of cricket in Soweto.
