I was in Barbados for the white ball series against the West Indies in December 2023, working as the resident Barmy Army DJ! It was the second time I had been to the island, and it is slowly feeling more and more like home with every trip I take there. The people are friendly, the food is fresh, the beaches are stunning and it really is a place to lose your worries and cares.
There really is so much to love about Barbados – the sun, the beaches, the food and, of course, the locals! People on the island are so incredibly welcoming, which makes it the perfect location for cricket fans looking to do an oversees tour for the first time!
The Barmy Bingo event back in December of last year was one of the best yet, and it was such a brilliant event to be a part of. I know the whole team is already looking forward to the next one!
During the recent white ball series, some of the games were unfortunately hit with bad weather – meaning a few of them were slightly drawn out and disconnected. However, this did not have any negative impact on the atmosphere! As you have probably realised by now, Barbadians always manage to have a great time!

I travelled to Barbados with my family – including an eight-year-old and a 1-year-old – and we were all made to feel so welcome. We were looked after so well in our hotel and the staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming, as they were to all other guests, too.
The food is incredible, and so fresh. The rum measures aren’t to be underestimated and the beer tastes better on the beach or watching the Caribbean sunset.
If you are thinking about travelling to the island to watch cricket, I would say do it! Much like a wild animal, it can be unpredictable at times, but even if the cricket is a little disappointing, you have the beautiful island to be grateful for. And if the cricket is good, what better place to enjoy it?
Barbados is such a magical place, you have to really submerge yourself in the culture and the island to get the most from your trip. If you do that, you’ll have the time of your life.
