The 2023 Ashes Series will forever be etched in cricketing history as one of the most thrilling Test series ever, with almost every game keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Now, over a year later, the cricketing world has caught its breath, and we are already looking forward to an exciting showdown in Australia next year.
England will head ‘Down Under’ aiming to regain the coveted Ashes urn, however, the trip is about more than just cricket. It’s a journey filled with unforgettable experiences. Joining the Barmy Army will ensure your Ashes experience is memorable, packing the itinerary with sightseeing opportunities to immerse you in the beauty and culture of Australia.
As the Ashes tour progresses, Sydney stands out as a highlight for cricket fans not only for its iconic sporting venues but also for its rich tapestry of culture, history, and vibrant city life. Known as the Harbour City, Sydney offers numerous attractions that promise to add to any cricket tour.
Here is a look at what supporters can expect in Sydney during the 25/26 Ashes:
Cricket
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is one of cricket’s most historic venues, offering a mix of modern amenities and rich heritage. Hosting cricket since 1848 (it was previously known as the Garrison Ground), the SCG is a must-visit for its atmospheric charm and sporting legacy.
There is no better feeling than being in the stands with the Barmy Army. The support is unrivalled, and the atmosphere unbeatable. Trust us when we say, if you are wanting to get behind Stokes and the lads in Sydney, you MUST do so alongside the thousands of travelling Barmy Army members!
Given its position in Moore Park in the city’s east, the stadium has a relatively limited capacity (a little over 40,000), especially in comparison to other grounds in the country. This, however, allows fans to get closer to the action and watch it all unfold from pretty much any point in the SCG.
The fact that the green-roofed Ladies pavilion – one of cricket’s most famous landmarks – remains at the ground, to this day, is something that all cricket fans enjoy. In addition to cricket, the stadium is also used for Australian rules football and occasionally for rugby league, rugby union and football.
Food & Drink
Many people suggest Sydney is the flavour capital of Australia – thanks largely to its multicultural heritage, passion for food and fresh produce. With seafood on its doorstep, it certainly is a wonderful place to eat!
From gourmet restaurants to alleyway cafes, bustling markets, glamorous cocktail bars and classic neighbourhood pubs, there is something for everyone in the capital of New South Wales. Icebergs Dining Room and Bar is a very popular spot, boasting unobstructed views of the sparkling Bondi coastline. Meanwhile, Mr. Wong and Sixpenny are always high on recommended lists!
If you’re looking for a good place to chill out and enjoy a drink – especially if travelling with friends – check out the Dolphin Hotel. It is the perfect combination of a wine-bar, pub and open-air terrace playing great tunes!

Things To Do
Just a stone’s throw from the Circular Quay, The Rocks is Sydney’s oldest area, full of cobbled streets and colonial buildings. This neighbourhood offers a glimpse into Sydney’s early days with its vibrant markets, boutique shops, and galleries. The weekend markets here are perfect for picking up unique souvenirs and tasting local gourmet treats.
No visit to Sydney is complete without seeing the Sydney Opera House. With its distinctive architecture and commanding position on Sydney Harbour, it’s a prime spot for photography. Circular Quay serves as a hub for ferry tours around the harbour, providing stunning views of the Harbour Bridge and nearby attractions.
Experience Australia’s beach culture at Bondi Beach, a world-renowned surf spot. Whether you’re up for a surf lesson or just want to soak up the sun, Bondi’s lively atmosphere is captivating. The coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee offers spectacular ocean views and passes through several lovely beaches.
Just a couple of hours’ drive from Sydney, the Blue Mountains provides a breathtaking natural escape. Known for its dramatic scenery, steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, and waterfalls, it’s a perfect day trip for nature lovers. Don’t miss the Three Sisters rock formation and the scenic world rides.
