Dharamsala is one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world and is the host venue for England’s final Test match of their tour to India this winter. We will be taking a look at the history of the ground and everything that the city of Dharamsala has to offer.
Stadium Information
The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium was opened in 2003 and has a stadium capacity of 23,000. Ground is 1,457 meters above sea level and is famous for being one of the most picturesque grounds in the world due to the backdrop of the Himalayas mountains. The ground is home to international matches, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Team, and also hosted a few Punjab Kings IPL matches.
Test Match Cricket in Dharamsala
Only once has there ever been a Test match played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium and that was between India and Australia in 2017. India won this Test match comfortably by 8 wickets but haven’t had a Test match since with this of course also being England’s first visit to the ground in Test match cricket.
The City of Dharamsala
Not only is the city right edge of the stunning Himalayan mountains but it is also the home to the Dalai Lama. Dharamasla is full of beautiful Tibetan temples and natural beauty making it arguably the most stunning location on the tour. The cuisine in Dharamsala is heavily influenced by Tibetan culture helping to make it unique from the other locations on the tour. It is the coolest temperature-wise of all the locations on the tour, due to the ground being so close to the Himalayan mountains, with average highs still being a warm twenty-two degrees. They do typically get some rain at that time of the year in Dharamasla but there still should hopefully be a low risk of any interruptions during the Test.
